Marvin Bell was born in Elkton, Kentucky, but attended college in Texas and obeyed the gospel at Southwestern Christian College. In 1992, he moved to Houston and worshipped at the Fifth Ward church for ten years where he was active in the singles ministry. At a singles retreat in Nashville, TN, he met his wife Sanée, and they married in December 2003. They have been blessed with two children, Richmond and Paige. Marvin currently teaches sixth-grade science in Katy ISD. The Bells reside in Cypress. They placed their membership at JV in January 2004. Marvin is active in the prison ministry and local evangelism.
Shawn currently serves as the deacon of Jersey Village’s youth ministry. In 1996, he married his college girlfriend, Christi, and they have been blessed with one son, Mason. Shawn and his family are originally from Dallas where he served as a deacon in their former congregation. The Biggers came to JV in 2006, and Shawn began working with the Young Marrieds group. He previously served as a deacon in that capacity from 2007-2009. Shawn works for Pump Company; in his spare time, you can usually find him behind a camera lens or attending one of his son’s many sporting events.
Brian grew up in Conroe, Texas in a large family of twelve. He attended the Conroe Church of Christ and was baptized in 1976. He presently works for Marathon Oil as a computer geoscientist and is married to the former Gloria Dela Cruz of Bacan, Banga, Philippines. They have three beautiful kids: Justin, Courtney, and Brandon. Brian has served as a deacon at JV since 2001. He coordinates support of mission works in Ghana, India, and the Philippines, including administration and finance, communicating with the missionaries, and meeting their needs when they visit the U.S on furlough.
John was born and raised in Weatherford, Texas and grew up in the church of Christ. John is a project manager for EA Engineering where he has been since 1999. John and his wife Julie were married in 1997. The couple were baptized together a few weeks after being married. They have three children Dallas, Tyler, and, Lubbock. John is the deacon over benevolence.
Jim Brown was born in Ft. Worth, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station, TX where he attended the A&M church of Christ. Jim, his wife Staci and son Morgan were members of the Lake Jackson church of Christ where Jim served as a deacon. The Browns moved to Houston in 2008 and placed membership at the Jersey Village church in 2011. Jim is the deacon serving Elementary Education and Young Married families. Jim and Staci are both teachers and Morgan will be attending Oklahoma Christian University.
Scott Chitwood is a sixth generation Houstonian. He attended Texas A&M University where he received bachelors and masters degrees in Civil Engineering. There he met his wife Dava and they were active in the Aggies for Christ. They have three children – Sarah, David, and Alex. The Chitwoods placed membership at JV in 2008 and currently reside in Cypress, TX. Scott is currently deacon of Technology and Youth.
Tim Deines was born in Berthoud, Colorado and grew up on a farm raising cattle. He attended Colorado School of Mines and received his degree in engineering. He began work for Marathon Oil Company in Wyoming following college, and is currently a manager for the company. Tim and his wife, Laura, were married in 1989, and they have three sons: Trevor, Cade, and Braden. His area of responsibility is the LifeTeams small-group ministry, co-led with Philip Franklin. LifeTeams provide our members an opportunity to build relationships, offer support through prayer and Bible study, and welcome visitors to JV.
Darrell Fannin has been a member of JV for almost 19 years. He has a multi-talented wife, Beverly, who is very involved in teaching Bible classes and coordinating puppets for LTC. Darrel and Beverly are proud parents of three grown children, and proud grandparents of two grandsons whom they love dearly. Darrell has formerly worked in the Children’s Bible Hour ministry, and the Communion Preparation/Baptismal supplies ministry while here at JV. He presently works in the Finance ministry. Darrell counts it a blessing to be able to serve such a warm, loving church family as Jersey Village.
Chris was born in Richmond, VA. He lived in many different parts of the U.S. while growing up including Boston, MA, New York, NY, and Kansas City, KS and then returned to Richmond. After graduating with two degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, he moved to San Diego CA for several years. Finally, he now makes Houston, TX his home. Chris has been in the field of computer technical consulting since 1980. He met Charlotte Whittemore in 1991 and began attending church with her at the Westbury Church of Christ. Chris was baptized two weeks before marrying Charlotte on March 26, 1995. Chris and Charlotte have two daughters, Caroline and Claire. Chris and Charlotte became members at Jersey Village church of Christ in April of 2003. Chris was ordained as a deacon in 2005. He is currently the deacon of benevolence.
Steve and his wife, Susan, first met in the JV youth group, but did not start dating until after college. They ran into each other in a work setting one day and have been together ever since! God has blessed them with two beautiful kids: Krystin and Luke. Both Steve and Susan are dedicated workers at JV; Susan is a Bible class teacher, and Steve has been a deacon since 2005, presently serving in the administration and finance ministry. He reconciles monthly bank statements, prepares a monthly financial and budget-comparison statement, and performs various church payroll duties.
Travis started attending the church of Christ as a kid, when he asked his parents if they could start going to worship with his grandmother. He met Rose in 2003 while attending Lake Houston Church of Christ, and they were married in 2006. They have two sons, Nathan and Levi. They placed membership at JVCOC in 2011, and in 2014, he was asked to serve as a deacon. He assists with technology and is in charge of coordinating and overseeing worship service.
Gil was born in Beaumont, TX and moved to the Houston area in 1980. He met the love of his life, Tricia, in 1996 and he was baptized that same year. They have three children Daniel, Carly and Elise. Gil has been involved in many areas of the church starting in Communion ministry and has since taken on the role of Men’s Ministry Deacon where he coordinates men’s activities. He is also involved in the building ministry.
Gerald Williams attended the University of Mississippi where he met and married his college sweetheart Christ Renee’. The two are proud parents of beautiful daughters, Madison and Meagan. Gerald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing and a Masters in Educational Leadership. He is a motivational speaker for various schools, clubs, and organizations and has co-authored several spiritual and inspirational books and workbooks.
At his former congregation, Gerald served as a youth minister and deacon. At Jersey Village Church of Christ, he now serves as deacon for the Young Professional Group. In his spare time, he enjoys family time, playing basketball, and traveling.
