“A Better Resurrection”   resurrection

“But about the resurrection of the dead – have you not read what God has said to you (Matthew 22:31)?”

Officials from the Indian state of Uttarakhand have commissioned a search for an herb called Sanjeevani Booti believed to exist among the hundreds of indigenous plants that grow in the Himalayas. According to Indian tradition, the herb is believed to possess the power to resurrect people from dead.

It is interesting to consider why this resurrection herb, if it truly exists, should be so sought after. Yes it may indeed be a means defeating death, but for how long? Even if one were to come back from the dead they still return to a dying body with diminishing vitality.

There is another solution to this problem that is 100% guaranteed. Of course therein lies the rub. To experience resurrection one must, by definition, die. All who die will rise again when Jesus returns. Not just the righteous but all who have died will rise again (John 5:28, Acts 24:15). The real issue is not finding a solution that provides the resurrection of one’s self but the question is which resurrection will you experience? A resurrection only to die again or a resurrection that leads to eternal life? This is the key and the genuine recipe is very simple – you must die. Not when you are old or when your vitality is ebbing but right now, as soon as you understand that you are perishing without this resurrection solution.

This solution isn’t some lost herb or compound but consists of but two ingredients that are freely available to everyone. All who die in their bodies will experience a resurrection. Jesus said that ALL who in their graves will rise upon His return. Just as He was raised Jesus Himself is the essential element in the resurrection from the dead (John 11:25). To realize the better resurrection one must simply add water. It is in choosing to die to self and be buried and then raised with Christ in baptism that one experiences the assurance of the better resurrection (Romans 6:3-6). While we still occupy a body subject to wear and tear and decline we are guaranteed of an eternal heavenly upgrade (2 Corinthians 5:1-5). By our obedience to Christ’s resurrection recipe we are granted the right to eat from the Tree of Life – forever (Revelation 22:14). You will never grow old, weary, sick, and you will never come near to death again upon this better resurrection for those in Christ (Luke 20:36). When Christ returns, the change will occur in a mere fraction of a second (vv.52-54) but the effect will be everlasting.

You may choose to wait for the discovery of the herb Sanjeevani Booti and hope in its resurrection power. Or, you may choose to ignore all of this. Still, there is a resurrection day ahead for you (John 5:28-29). The question is, will you experience a resurrection or the better resurrection?

“Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:35).”
