Moses and the Burning Bush
OBJECTIVE: To discuss the story of the burning bush and its application to
us today: No excuses!
Feasting on the Word:
What was unusual about the bush that was on fire? (3:2,3) What did God tell
Moses to do? Why? (vs. 5)
Why did God want Moses to go back to Egypt? (3:7-10)
Moses was not sure he was the man for the job. He tried to make excuses.
What was his first excuse in 3:11? What was God’s answer to that excuse?
(verses 12 and 19-20)
What was Moses’ second excuse in 4:1? What was God’s answer to that
What was Moses’ third excuse in 4:10? What was God’s answer to that
excuse? (verses 11-12)
In verse 13, Moses begged God to send someone else. How did God feel
about that in verse 14? However, God provided Moses with help so he could
do the job. What did God say in verses 14-17?
God gives each of us opportunities to do things for him. Talk about some of
them. What are some excuses people give for not getting involved? Read
Ephesians 3:20,21 and Philippians 4:13. Discuss how these verses can help
you overcome the temptation to make excuses.
Discuss this: Have you been making excuses to God for why you CAN’T do
something He wants you to do? Are you afraid to teach others about Jesus?
Are you waiting on others to invite you to get involved in church work? What
did God do every time Moses made excuses? Pray for God to empower you
to do great things for him.
