What To Expect

What To Expect

We look forward to welcoming you to Jersey Village and making you feel like you’re right at home! It excites us that you are thinking of visiting us soon. To help you feel comfortable, here are some of the things you can expect to see when you visit:

At the core of our beliefs is that the Bible is the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16) and that every single word within its pages is true.  We believe that the Bible gives us all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

We believe that the Bible is God’s love letter to mankind in which He expresses His desire that all men be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

We believe that once we sin for the first time we are separated from God (Isaiah 59:2) and need to be reconciled back to Him before we can find salvation.  We believe that God so loved man that He sent Jesus to die for our sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8).  It is the blood of Christ that purchased our freedom, redeemed us, from sin (Ephesians 1:7).

We believe that the Bible says that it is only in Jesus that we find salvation (Acts 4:12; John 14:6)

We believe that God has directed us to share the saving message of Jesus with the entire world (Matthew 28:18-20).

We also believe that the Bible teaches us exactly what we must do to be in a right relationship, a saved relationship, with God:

  •   That we must believe Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24)

  • That we must repent of our sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30)

  • That we must confess the name of Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9)

  • That we must be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21)

  • That at baptism God gives us His Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:13)

  • That God adds us to His church at baptism (Acts 2:47)

  • That we must live faithfully even to death to receive the crown of life (Revelation 2:10)

Our hope is that when you visit JV you will be made to feel completely welcome and at home and you will be treated like the honored guest that you are!

Beginning at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings and 7:00PM on Wednesday evenings, we conduct Bible classes for all ages: from newborns through elementary; Junior and Senior High school; from single adults and young marrieds all the way to senior adults there is a Bible class where you will feel connected and welcome.  We spend class time studying God’s Word and discussing how it applies to our lives.  During the class, feel free to make comments, ask questions, or sit back and observe—whatever you are most comfortable with!

There are several Bible classes for adults to choose from including lecture and discussion formats.

Our Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:00 am with a song, followed by a greeting, announcements and a preview of the sermon with a reading of scripture from the Bible. This will be followed by more congregational singing.  Please join us in singing praises to our Lord!  The words to the songs are projected on the screen for your convenience.

During our worship service, a message from God’s Word will be presented that is intended to both give a deeper understanding of God’s purpose and also to inspire us to apply Scriptural truth to our lives.

Before the sermon, all two-year old through kindergarten age children can be excused to attend our Bible Hour, where they will partake in age appropriate activities and lessons.

We also pray and observe Communion. Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is a special meal in which Christians reflect on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  All Christians are invited to partake of this meal with us. After Communion, a collection will be taken up from our members to support the work of the church.  However, as our guest, you should feel no obligation to give.

At the end of the service, we will be dismissed with a song and a closing prayer.

The New Testament does not explicitly mention the use of musical instruments in Christian worship. Instead, it emphasizes singing. For example, Ephesians 5:19 says, “Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,” and Colossians 3:16 instructs, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

Following by example, we see that the early Christian church is believed to have practiced a cappella worship.

We practice a cappella worship based on the New Testament practices and the desire to maintain a direct form of praise to God. This stance is less about condemning instruments as inherently wrong and more about adhering to biblical worship practices.
